Chapter Four

Date with Destiny

The coffee date lasted the entire day. Dixon never had so many muffins at once. He felt like his stomach was about to explode after shoving that last chocolate chip muffin into his mouth, but he didn’t care. He was too distracted by the woman sitting in front of him, glowing bright like the sun itself.

Jade was a kindergarten teacher in between jobs. She had never heard about his music, so he didn’t need to worry about her being a fan. She loved plants, and she always wanted a big family, just like him.

He couldn’t look away from her; she was calm, didn’t gesture a lot with her hands like Zoe always did, and had a soft smile that didn’t seem to leave her face. And she made corny jokes that made him laugh for days at a time.

The second date was the very next day. They went to see a movie he’d wanted to see for a while, but he spent more time looking at Jade than anything else.

He explained the plot to her afterwards at a small restaurant that just opened near him. She spent most of the time with her chin in her hand, observing every aspect of him, her attention only on him. They spent the entire night together, ending it with a walk in the park and ice cream.

His original thought proved to be right. Even if Dixon was madly in love with her just after two dates, he still thought she was too perfect to be real. He wouldn’t dare tell her just in case she decided to get up and leave. He knew that if she left, he wouldn’t be able to go on anymore. It wouldn’t be like when Zoe left him either; he knew, deep down, that he would be devastated, no longer finding a reason to continue his life.

When he had the lens inserted, the doctor assured him that his Zeta would forever be loyal. But could he really trust him? What if he was wrong, and Dixon lost Jade before he could even say, “I love you?”

They had only gone out two times, but he felt like he’d known her all his life. It just recently dawned on him that the Silver Lining lens had worked. It found his one true love. The one person he could finally be happy with.

It not only worked in finding her, but everything else around him felt lighter also. Work wasn’t stressful anymore, and his family became much less aggravating; nothing bad happened to him anymore, and everything seemed to be falling into place.

Dixon couldn’t stop thinking about how wonderful his life was while he waited for Jade to show up for dinner one night. This was finally the night where he would bring her back to his place.

He sat alone at the restaurant bar and was about to order another water. He didn’t want to start drinking until she got there, when he felt a tap on his shoulder.

“Well, it’s about time,” he teased as he turned around in his chair.
